In these last moments before Christmas, as we put together the final edition of the Western Wheel for 2019, we are filled with hope for the new year, gratitude for the past 12 months of story-telling and community-building and, frankly, exhaustion.
It’s been a busy few weeks around the Wheel - because it’s been a busy few weeks around the Foothills.
There have been Christmas concerts, fundraising events, community parties and family functions, more musical numbers than we can count, a myriad of Santa sightings and too many cups of hot chocolate (it pairs well with all the baked treats, candy canes and chocolates we’ve been sampling, though).
These are the moments that pass so quickly, but can be the most fulfilling.
There’s something about the sparkle in a Grade 2 kid’s eye while he’s belting out a chorus of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or the pride written on the face of a Grade 11 saxophone player nailing a solo that captures the essence of the season.
The community gathers together in a number of ways during Christmas, and whether you’re a proud parent or grandparent, a service club putting on a fundraiser or a family event, or just someone who enjoys taking it all in, there’s one thing you can be promised in December: the Foothills will keep you on your toes and in the Christmas spirit.
As we wind down production here at the office we’re all looking forward to having a little downtime with our family and friends over the holidays.
Sure, all these busy days and nights leading up to this week have meant some of us have last-minute shopping to do - but judging by the traffic around Okotoks we’re not alone there.
