Celebrating 95 Years of Golf at Turner Valley Golf Club

Whether you’re an avid golfer or just love the atmosphere of a great clubhouse patio, read on to learn why Turner Valley Golf Club is worth a visit.

Celebrating 95 Years of Golf at Turner Valley Golf Club

Turner Valley Golf Club is a destination steeped in nearly a century of history, surrounded by stunning scenery and offering an experience that’s as much about connection and community as it is about the game itself. This year, the Club marks an incredible milestone – its 95th anniversary – and there’s no better time to celebrate what makes it so special.

Community-focused History

Founded in 1930, Turner Valley Golf Club's story is a fascinating one. It was started during the Depression by four locals and the assistance of Royalite Oil Company. The original course was a three-hole track and tin cups served as the holes. The aim was for an outdoor recreational space to help locals with a healthy distraction from the tough economic times of the Depression.

A few years later, it expanded to a 9-hole course with sand greens, and in 1975, became the fully realized 18-hole course that members cherish today. Through the decades, the Club has undergone numerous transformations, from its initial layout to its eventual signature tree-lined fairways, small but challenging greens, and views of the foothills and the Rockies.

Key milestones—such as the construction of the Royalite clubhouse in 1964 and the transition to lush grass greens—highlight the shared commitment to continually elevating the Club’s standards.

Today, Turner Valley Golf Club represents more than just golf; it’s a celebration of community and resilience.

A Scenic Course with a Culture of Inclusion

According to the Club’s Ryan Lindsay, the unique culture makes this course stand out.

“While we do offer a championship-style course that challenges seasoned players, it’s also great for beginners or anyone just looking for a fun round of golf. Our staff creates a welcoming, laid-back vibe that elevates the experience,” Lindsay explains.

While what each golfer finds challenging on a course is subjective, he points to two holes that are known to build character.

“One of the most challenging holes would have to be #16. It’s a long par 5 with little forgiveness if you stray from the fairway. Another #14, known for its tough layout and green. It's a tough approach and tough putting to get off the hole on that one!”

But make no mistake, it’s not all about challenges. For many, it’s the breathtaking views of the surrounding foothills and the ability to relax and play a sport they love that keeps them coming back. For those who enjoy as much relaxation as adventure, the course’s layout accommodates both.

The Pro Shop and Royalite Grill

A great golf outing isn’t complete without a stop at the pro shop. Stocked with top-of-the-line equipment and a friendly team ready to assist, the Turner Valley Golf Club Pro Shop has everything you need for a day on the course; and, when it’s time to unwind, there’s no better place than the Royalite Grill. Known for its homemade food and patio views, it’s the perfect spot to recap your best shots of the day (and laugh about the not-so-great ones).

Lindsay highlights the patio experience as one of the real gems of Turner Valley. “The food and the views make it one of the best spots in the foothills.”

Check out The Royalite Grill and treat yourself after a round. The Grill is open to non-golfers too, so keep this spot in mind anytime you want to have a great meal or relax on a patio under the summer sun.
