Get Ready for An Unbelievable Experience at STS Summer Camps

It’s the classic summer dilemma – what to do with the kids! You want them to have a relaxing summer, but you also don’t want them to forget the importance of learning over the school break.

What if there was a place they could go where the campus is brimming with nature and the natural lessons it offers; where learning is fun, exciting, and engaging; where the instructors have years of hands-on experience; and where each camp session is as transformative and impactful as it is enjoyable?

It’s not a dream. That reality exists at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School’s (STS) 2024 summer camps.

With a plethora of options for children aged 4-17 and situated on a stunning 220-acre campus, STS summer campers will pursue passions, learn new skills, meet new friends, and learn lessons that will serve them well for a lifetime.

"We are offering an array of educational camps, held on our beautiful campus. Our facilities include a pond for canoeing and kayaking, a trail network for navigation and orienteering, an indoor climbing and bouldering wall, and areas for archery and biking," says STS’s Scott Bennett. “Outdoor education is a flagship of our school, and we ensure that each camp is led by professionals who are passionate about providing a safe and engaging environment for all participants."

Just some of the camps include:

Graffiti Art Camp (age range from 11-14)

Immerse your young artist in a creative and dynamic graffiti art summer camp designed to inspire and educate. This "Colour Outside the Lines" camp is a fun-filled opportunity for participants to explore the vibrant world of urban art, learn about counterculture, and create stunning projects that reflect their unique artistic voices. Campers will dive into various aspects of graffiti and street art, gaining valuable knowledge and skills in urban art techniques, colour theory, and street art history. Participants will engage in hands-on projects that allow them to experiment with different mediums and techniques. Throughout the week, they will complete four major projects: sculpture, painting, streetwear, and mixed media. On the last day of the camp, parents and guardians are invited to attend an art exhibition.

Robo Sports Camp

The Robo Sports Camp offers an exciting and educational experience for students aged 12-14. This full-day camp is designed to immerse campers in the world of robotics, where they will use VEX IQ Robotics kits to design, build, and program robots. These robots will compete in Olympic-style competitions, providing a fun and competitive environment that enhances both technical and creative skills. Students will gain hands-on experience in several key areas, such as robotics design and engineering, programming, teamwork, and strategy. Throughout the week, campers will engage in various activities that challenge their engineering and problem-solving abilities.

STS All Ball Camp (age range from 8-13)

Students in this camp may try their hand at various ball sports. No previous sporting experience is required. The goal is to expose students and nurture an appreciation of each sport. This multi-sport camp will introduce students to various ball sports and activities and allow them to try a new sport in a relaxed environment with our exceptional staff, learn new skills, and connect with other new friends. Students will do a variety of skills and drills in addition to understanding the rules of the various sports at the same time. Campers may participate in multiple sports, such as soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, handball, and combinations of other ball sports, to name a few.

Bennett adds, "This year, we are thrilled to introduce the Nature Lab Discovery Camp for ages 11-14, led by our senior science learning leader. This camp combines outdoor activities with scientific exploration, using tools like microscopes and VR. We are also honoured to have Dr. Louise Edwards, a leader in VR development, as a guest speaker for this camp. It's going to be very cool!"

Those are far from the only options!

"Overall, we are offering over 60 camps, working with several partners to provide a wide range of activities,” shares Bennett. “All programs run from 9 am to 3:45 pm, ensuring an immersive and structured day for all campers. We welcome parents to register online or call for more information. If they want to speak to someone directly, I'm always available to answer any questions."

He concludes, "What sets our camps apart is the personalised experience we offer from start to finish. Our beautiful country campus provides a welcoming and calming environment, with a wide range of programs for ages 4-17. Our goal is to provide allow children to reconnect with nature, develop new skills, and make lasting friendships."
