The 2021 Western Wheel Cares campaign raised a record $72,107 in its 10th year. Proceeds were divided evenly between seven local charities, the same seven who will be recipients of the 2022 campaign.

There are only a few days left to donate to Western Wheel Cares.

The 11th annual campaign, which accepts donations from the community and distributes them evenly to seven local charities, runs until Dec. 31.

The campaign has received tremendous support over the past two months as it looks to build on a record-breaking 2021.

“With our tight economy and rising prices everywhere we turn, surprisingly, Western Wheel Cares donations have been fairly steady this season,” said Gayle Wolf, office manager at the Western Wheel and co-ordinator of the fundraising initiative.

“It’s very heartwarming to see familiar faces and names as many people donate yearly,” Wolf added. “Donors have the option to donate on behalf of someone else as a Christmas gift, which we publish in our weekly issues. It’s especially touching when a donation is made in memory of a loved one (whether it be a family member, friend or pet). We also publish these in the paper and it’s a wonderful way to honour the memory of someone.”

The 2022 Western Wheel Cares campaign benefits seven organizations: Foothills Advocacy in Motion Society, Foothills Country Hospice, Inclusion Foothills, Okotoks Food Bank, Pound Rescue, Rowan House Society and Sheep River Health Trust.

In its 10th year in 2021, Western Wheel Cares raised a record $72,107 – topping the previous all-time high of $71,379.65 set in 2020.

The campaign has raised $486,389 for local charities over the past decade.

One hundred per cent of donations are passed through to the charities.

Donations will be accepted until Dec. 31. To donate to Western Wheel Cares, use the PayPal link at okotokstoday.ca/western-wheel-cares, drop by the Wheel office at 9 McRae St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch) weekdays, or call 587-325-6234.
