Diamond Valley groups join the fun on parade day

The Sheep Creek Arts Council is holding a bake sale and quilt show on Diamond Valley Parade Day.
More than 150 quilts will be on display at the Airdrie and District Quilt Guild’s show at the Balzac Community Hall Oct. 17 and 18.
A variety of quilts will be on display at the Diamond Valley Quilt Show on June 3.

Several groups throughout town are getting in on Diamond Valley Parade Day with their own special events on Saturday, June 3.

The Sheep Creek Arts Council is holding a bake sale, which is the group’s major fundraiser for the year, as well as the Diamond Valley Quilt Show.

The bake sale is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., but arts council volunteer Maxine Nelson said it’s best to arrive early because it promises to sell out.

“It was very, very popular last year,” Nelson said of the sale that features baked goodies made by members of the arts council as well as the wider community.

The quilt sale also runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is expected to fill the walls of the arts council headquarters with a variety of hand-made creations.

“There will be all different types, fabric art, basic traditional quilting, probably some modern quilting, but we won't know what's going to come in until they start coming in on Wednesday,” she said.

Many of the quilts are made by arts council members, but the show is open to anyone residing in the Foothills.

The Sheep Creek Arts Council is located at 133 Sunset Blvd. SW in Turner Valley.

The annual Sheep River Library Book Sale will also be held on June 3, running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside the library’s front entrance.

The sale provides an opportunity to stock up on summer reading as all items are by donation.

The Valley Neighbours Club, also located at 133 Sunset Blvd. SW in Turner Valley, is holding a plant sale on June 3.
