The drama department at the Oilfields High School is inviting audiences aboard for an evening of suspense and laughter.
The original play Long Term Cruise: A Mystery on the High Seas is directed and written by Oilfields drama teacher Pam Pracic. It follows a mystery set on a seniors-only cruise after a passenger disappears. Foul play is suspected as a true crime fan uses her skills to solve the mystery.
Because the show is an original production authored by Pracic, she said the challenges have been hard, but the rewards are plentiful.
“There is a lot of flexibility in doing your own show that allows me to write in new characters, change scenes around and adapt the script for the cast," said Pracic.
“I love writing big, eccentric characters so there’s a lot of them in this show.”
The show is featuring a cast of students from grades 10 through 12. The Oilfields drama class has brought in many students from different backgrounds to prepare and orchestrate the production.
Pracic has be preparing her cast, production team and backstage crew for several months. The students have been rehearsing lines, preparing the set and running through technical routines.
Long Term Cruise is a stand-alone sequel to Pracic’s earlier original play Long Term Care. Fans of Long Term Care can spot some references and jokes from the first play. Pracic added the newest production is suitable for all audiences
There will be four showings of Long Term Cruise on May 29, 30 and 31 at 7 p.m. along with a special matinee show at 1:30 p.m. on May 30. All showings will be at the Oilfields theatre in Diamond Valley.
