Equestrian facility and arena approved near Priddis

The facility, which will include an arena and two horse barns, will provide boarding and training for horses along with riding lessons and training for show jumping.

The development of a limited public equestrian facility by White Moose Farms Ltd. was approved at a Foothills County council meeting on Sept. 11.

The facility will be located on a 150-acre parcel at SE 26-22-03 W5M just outside Priddis and will provide boarding and training for horses along with riding lessons and training for show jumping.

The facility will include an arena with an attached viewing, service and lobby area, a lunging ring and two horse barns with a total of 28 stalls and an exercise wheel.

There are currently two residences on the site, each occupied by one person. The development will accommodate the homes.

No special events for the public are currently planned at the facility.

"There will be no noise, dust, odours or drainage from this site that will have any impact on any person or the environment," stated the application.

The approval comes after an initial proposal to redesignate the site, at the time totalling 459.95 acres, to allow for the development was rejected in September of 2023, with council deciding at the time the redesignation was beyond the scale and scope of what it felt was appropriate.

A date for construction to begin has not yet been set, with the applicant needing to comply with the necessary pre-release conditions by Feb. 25, 2025 before the issuance of a development permit.

As part of Foothills County's Dark Skies Initiative, the applicant has additionally committed to consult with the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory to ensure that any outdoor lighting minimizes light pollution.
