GALLERY: Young builders compete in Diamond Valley Lego contest

The competition was held at the Sheep River Library on Feb. 1.

A Lego contest gave local youth the opportunity to flex their creative muscles and show off their skills.

The Sheep River Library held a “Scenes and Machines" Lego contest on Feb. 1, with 62 contestants bringing in everything from scenes out of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings to card-shuffling contraptions and robotic arms.

There were two categories: ages 5-9 and 10-plus.

The 5-9 category was won by Elwood Egles, Lincoln Isbister and Roen Bertram, in first, second and third place, respectively, with honourable mentions given to Tripp McCullough, Francis Leeder and Benjamin Lee.

Ten-plus was won by Peter Konrad, Nixon White and Charis Braun, with honourable mentions to Eli Keller, Marley Farewell and Maverick Wiens.

Stephen Joo — a runner-up in season three of Lego Masters, a reality show hosted by The Lego Batman Movie star Will Arnett — was expected to make an appearance, but was unable to attend. In lieu, a pre-recorded interview with Joo was played for attendees and an autographed Lego box set was up for grabs through a random draw.
