The Longview Country Market will operate every Saturday until Sept. 27.

There’s a new market in the Foothills.

Located on Highway 22 across from Longview Elementary School, the Longview Country Market begins its inaugural season this Saturday (June 28).

The market will operate every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Sept. 27.

Manager Kathie Selbee said the community has been wanting a market for many years, so when space became available on the main drag, the idea became reality.

Selbee said about a dozen vendors have signed up thus far, but added there’s room for as many as 50 outdoors and another six inside.

“We have a nice cross-section of vendors. We have everything from handcrafted sterling silver and copper jewellery, healing butters and balms, pet portraits, produce. We even have cherries and peaches coming in from Creston,” she said.

Selbee said there will also be baked goods like cinnamon buns, sweet and savoury pies, and sausage rolls.

She’s hoping the market draws visitors from throughout the region and capitalizes on the 5,000 or so vehicles that make their way through town on a summer Saturday.

The market has also put out a call for buskers, so it’s hoping to have live entertainment on a weekly basis.

Selbee said she encourages people to shop locally and to support local entrepreneurs.

“That's the biggest message I want to get out there," she said. "It's just wonderful to see communities come together in this manner and really thrive as a whole.”

In addition to every Saturday, the market will also operate on Sunday, July 20 during the Little New York Daze festival.
