It’s a week later than planned, but the Millarville Farmers’ Market will open for its 43rd year today (Saturday, June 28).
Held at the Millarville Racing & Agricultural Society grounds, the market was scheduled to open last Saturday, but was forced to postpone opening day due to last weekend’s heavy rainfall.
The largest market in southern Alberta with some 185 vendors weekly, it runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until Oct. 11.
Admission is a suggested $3 donation.
It’s an Alberta-approved market, meaning that at least 80 per cent of items are made, baked or grown in Alberta.
Market organizers take great pride in the quality of the vendors, most of whom are small business people, farmers, ranchers, orchard owners and craftspeople. That means you’ll find growers, makers, bakers and artists behind the tables at every market.
Vendors sell all manner of food items, from farm-fresh produce and tasty baked goods to all sorts of home-made creations, including everything from soups and sauces to pickles and pasta.
The artisan vendors will have pottery, artwork, jewellery, woodwork, clothing and more unique products available for purchase.
Proceeds from admission donations support programming at the Millarville Racetrack, which includes 4H clubs, High Country Pony Club, Sheep Creek Weavers and Millarville Mutts & Mustangs, to name a few.
