Several Eden Valley homes were without electricity after a logging truck hit a power pole just west of Longview last week.

The driver of the truck was attempting to avoid a moose and ended up rolling the truck along Secondary Highway 541 at approximately 9 a.m. Dec. 15. The truck knocked down a power pole.

“We did experience an outage in that area as a result of a truck striking one of our poles,” said Alana Antonelli, of FortisAlberta in an email. “The outage affected 170 customers from approximately 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. while crews made repairs.”

Some of those without power included residents of Eden Valley.

Claude Lefthand of Eden Valley First Nation public works said it made things difficult in the community.

“Every home that was affected, it was cold, and some people couldn’t prepare meals,” Lefthand said. “Hopefully it doesn’t happen again.”

He said some members of the community are concerned about the amount of logging trucks using the road.

Black Diamond-Turner Valley RCMP said no charges were laid in relation to the truck hitting the power pole.
