Firefighters worked in the dark to fight a large grass fire in a rural area in Foothills County on Sunday night.
Diamond Valley Fire Rescue said it responded to the fire at about 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 26, along with the Foothills Fire Department and High River Fire Department.
A field was burning on the east side of Highway 22 near Highway 540.
Motorists who called 911 said the fire was the size of a football field and growing.
When fire crews arrived, the fire had doubled in size, and darkness made for challenging conditions, DVFR said.
Fire departments from the region worked with farmers to limit the spread of the fire and used a specialized drone to focus their efforts.
DVFR said conditions are dry, and fires can grow quickly, even in the winter.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No buildings were damaged and there were no injuries.
