Grant funding will help more Diamond Valley elementary school students hit the right notes.
A national music charity is granting $9,500 to C. Ian McLaren School to buy new musical instruments and to repair ones it has.
The funding is part of $1 million worth of instruments, equipment and gear being provided to schools across Canada from the MusiCounts Band Aid Program and the Slaight Family Innovation Fund.
C. Ian McLaren is one of four Alberta schools to get funding from the Band Aid Program. The program has been providing grants to help under-resourced music programs since 1997, MusiCounts said in a news release.
Foothills School Division said the funding means more students can take part in music classes.
Kristy Fletcher, President of MusiCounts, said the organization is thrilled to help students get involved in music.
Students will “find a safe space in their school where they can connect with their peers, build their confidence, and find their voice,” Fletcher said.
In total, 74 schools received funding through the Band Aid Program and the Slaight Family Innovation Fund. MusiCounts said it can support only one in five schools that applied this year.
