An opening ceremony will be held on June 7 for Gray Park in Diamond Valley.

A grand opening celebration will be held for Gray Park in Diamond Valley on Saturday, June 7.

Located adjacent to Oilfields Regional Arena, the natural area has been protected to ensure public access for generations thanks to the Western Sky Land Trust, the generous donation of Gordon Gray and the Town of Diamond Valley.

Gray Park represents the Foothills Parkland ecoregion of Alberta. The landscape is ecologically significant as part of a healthy Sheep River watershed. It is a rich patchwork of grassland, riparian forests, wetlands and river.

Opening ceremonies will take place at 4 p.m. with free programming running from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Jessie Fiddler-Kiss, a Metis land-based educator, will share her knowledge of tea making, there will be a nature walk in the park and the opportunity to paint a bird house.

There will also be a game of ‘Interpretive Park Bingo’ for a chance to win a prize.
