The Alberta Summer Games are only three months away but there’s still work to be done on the mountain bike trail in Diamond Valley.

The Town of Diamond Valley is recruiting volunteers for a work party on Saturday, April 29 to get the trail ready for the Games, which take place July 20 to 23.

Volunteers are needed to hand rake trails as well as prune branches and shrubs from existing paths. The work party runs from 8 a.m. to noon, and the Town says it would appreciate help from anyone during any portion of that time.

Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves, shovels and rakes if they have them. Register to volunteer by visiting diamondvalley.town.

Okotoks and Diamond Valley are co-hosting the 2023 Alberta Summer Games. Mountain biking is the only sport being contested in Diamond Valley.

The five-kilometre trail starts and ends at the pump track and goes down the escarpment on municipal reserve land. The majority of the trail is on Turner Valley Golf Club land.

Care has been taken to keep damage to natural areas at a minimum with the trail configured to run around the trees.
