Walk provides insights into Fish Creek Watershed

Participants in Priddis Creek walk learned about the overall health of the watershed, beaver co-existence, fish species and more.

The Fish Creek Watershed Association hosted a family-friendly walk and barbecue along Priddis Creek in partnership with Trout Unlimited Canada and Cows and Fish on Saturday, June 3.

During the walk, 30 participants learned about the overall health of the watershed, beaver co-existence tools and strategies, the fish species living in the creek and the importance of watershed stewardship by local landowners.

The association is a non-profit organization that was established in December 2020 by David Swann and a group of Foothills County residents. This citizen-led association is committed to protecting the Fish Creek Watershed, which includes Upper Fish Creek, Priddis Creek and Whiskey Creek.

The association has made several major accomplishments since its inception in 2020, including:

• The State of the Watershed Report (2022)

• The initiation of the Priddis Streamflow Monitoring Project (2022)

• The Integrated Watershed Management Plan (2023)

Those interested in getting involved or learning more about the watershed can visit the group’s Facebook page, contact Peter Adams at [email protected] or become a member.
