2021 Town of Turner Valley Council Election Coverage

Two empty spots were filled on Turner Valley town council in the Oct. 18 municipal election, and the remaining four incumbent candidates were re-elected back onto council.

The four incumbent Turner Valley councillors have been re-elected in unofficial results released Oct. 18 at 11:35 p.m. Incumbent councilors Jonathan Gordon, Cindy Holladay, Garry Raab and John Waring were voted in for another term.

The Western Wheel is speaking to municipal election candidates about their platforms. Turner Valley has nine candidates running for six council positions. We have featured three candidates each week. Alberta’s municipal election will be held Oct. 18.

Candidates were asked about amalgamation, attracting downtown businesses, provincial versus municipal taxes, holding contractors to completion deadlines, handling conflict and councillor training.

Forums will be held for Turner Valley and Black Diamond candidates as organizers scramble to come up with new ways to organize the event amidst COVID restrictions.

Nine candidates seeking council positions in Turner Valley

Turner Valley Mayor Barry Crane was acclaimed Sept. 20 and said he is endorsing the four councillors seeking re-election in the Oct. 18 municipal election.

Turner Valley Mayor Barry Crane is running in the upcoming election, on a platform of financial responsibility and continuity in amalgamation planning. Crane was elected as a councillor in 2013 and was acclaimed as the mayor in 2019 in a byelection.

John Waring and Garry Raab plan to hand in their nomination papers for the 2021 municipal election, only if Black Diamond and Turner Valley councils agree to submit a request for amalgamation to the minister of municipal affairs in September.
