Starry Night Spectacular to ring in 2024 in Diamond Valley

Fireworks are set off from the Millennium Park ball diamond during the New Year's Eve celebration in Turner Valley on Dec. 31, 2022. Turner Valley and Black Diamond amalgamated to become the Town of Diamond Valley on Jan. 1 this year.

Diamond Valley is ringing in 2024 with a Starry Night Spectacular on Dec. 31

The Town hosts the New Year’s Eve event at Millenium Park and the Flare n’ Derrick Community Hall from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Diamond Valley Sustainable Living Centre is partnering with the Town and chose the Starry Night theme, said event coordinator Loralee Bean.

“To go along with that, we're going to have a few special features that we haven't had in the past,” Bean said.

New attractions this year include photos with a Star Wars character and an outdoor planetarium with telescopes for star gazing, provided by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.

In addition, the Town is bringing back favourites like hayrides, ice skating (weather permitting), face painting, a dance party with a DJ and star-themed crafts. Food and warm drinks will be supplied by the 1st Oilfields Scouts.

“One of the favourite parts of the evening is the hayrides,” Bean said.

The event wraps up with fireworks at 8 p.m.

The annual New Year’s Eve celebration has been a tradition in the community since 2010.

“It's usually pretty busy,” she said. “People come and they dress up warm, so that they can do the indoor and the outdoor activities.”

Several local organizations and sponsors are helping put on the event, and the Town said community events wouldn't be possible without their support.
