A High River-based business is among Canada’s top employers, according to Forbes’ annual list.

Western Financial Group, an insurance services company, came in 14th out of 300 organizations in the list of Canada’s Best Employers 2024 published on Jan. 23.

The company was founded in 1996, but has roots going back to 1905, according to information on its website. With about 1,800 employees, Western Financial group operates 179 locations and affiliates, including in Okotoks, High River, Diamond Valley, Cochrane and Olds.

To compile the list, Forbes and market research firm Statista rank organizations that have 500 or more employees using data gathered from a survey of more than 40,000 workers in Canada.

The survey asks about salary, gender pay equity, flexibility, opportunities to advance and on-the-job training opportunities to help create the list of top places to work.

Data from the past three years is used, with more recent data given more weight in the results, according to Forbes.

The Hershey Company took top spot on the 2024 list, followed by the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and Brock University.

Western Financial Group is a subsidiary of Trimont Financial, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company.
