A new pool hall aims to grow the sport in High River.

Stix N’ Bones pool and billiard hall was opened earlier this month by a pool-playing family at Ranchland Mall on Third Avenue SE.

“We love the game, and we want to grow it,” said co-owner Tracy Bohning. “We're a family-operated business, we're a family friendly place."

The pool hall has 16 tables, including seven and nine-foot Diamonds and bar boxes intended for league and tournament play, Bohning said

“Playing on those tables would qualify them to play in any other tournament that's happening around Calgary, or even the World Championships in Las Vegas,” she said.

Arcade and virtual reality games round out the entertainment options, and there is a bar area and food, but not a full kitchen, she said.

"We don't want to be that bar scene," she said. “We’re a snack kind of place, so grilled cheese, grilled sandwiches, really quick food items.”

Minors are allowed inside at any time, but Bohning said that could change in the next couple of weeks.

The pool hall is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week. More information is available on Stix N’ Bones Facebook page, and details on upcoming tournaments will be available at the business.

“We’ll have a poster wall which will show everything that’s coming up, sign up sheets, all of that,” she said.

She said she’s heard nothing but good feedback since they opened and they are striving to have a safe, respectful and fun place.

“I think it's going to be good for the community,” she said.
