A public hearing will be held tomorrow (May 28) for a major residential development proposed near the Aldersyde overpass in Foothills County.

The hearing, for an application to adopt the Highfield and Rowland Acres Area Structure Plan, takes place at the Highwood Golf Club in High River at 9 a.m.

Combined, the two communities would span more than 1,100 acres east of Highway 2 along Highway 547, near the existing communities of Ravencrest and Silver Tip.

Developers say the approximate population within the proposed development could be anywhere from 8,000 to 16,000 residents, but demand and pace of development could impact those numbers.

Designs for the area include single- and multi-family homes and neighbourhood commercial, among other amenities, which include a school site and fire hall.

Planning for the project began in 2016, and updates to the plan were unveiled at an open house in March, including changes to density and a size reduction from what was originally proposed.
