For over 60 years, Kumon Learning Centers have been helping children as young as three master basic learning concepts in math and reading. The Kumon center in Okotoks provides afterschool programs that offer comprehensive instruction in core subjects and allow children to learn at their own pace. They place emphasis on individual learning, which helps children become focused, motivated, and self-reliant. Kumon believes that your child only needs 30 minutes a day on each subject to master concepts – and this has been proven to work.
Kumon’s math program focuses on everything from basic counting and number sequencing to advanced algebra to trigonometry and calculus. Your child will attend class at the Kumon Learning Centre in Okotoks for up to 2 days a week, and with a daily practice of about 30 minutes a day. They will be assigned work to complete at home the other five days of the week. This program works at the child’s own pace, so your child will only work on assignments within their skill level. Once they have mastered one concept, they will move on to the next. There is no pressure to move up fast, only to learn.
Similar to their math program, the reading program is 2 days a week, and with a daily practice of about 30 minutes a day. From pre-reading skills to critical thinking and interpretation, the reading program spans from pre-school to high school. Every child works at their own pace and will not move on to the next skill level until current concepts are mastered. You can ensure your child’s reading and writing skills will grow before your eyes.
More Than Just a Tutor
When a child is falling behind in school, many parents opt for a tutor. While a tutor can be beneficial, they are not always the best option for many children. The Kumon Learning Centre in Okotoks, AB is more than a tutoring program; they offer in-depth analysis of where your child is academically and create a learning program tailored to your child’s needs. Not only do they build on the skills your child already has, but they also offer structure and support in an environment designed to help your child thrive.
Like many tutors and learning programs, Kumon requires a tuition fee for each subject. They strive to make this affordable for families from all walks of life. There is no commitment, and you can cancel anytime with proper notice. This fee ensures your child receives a personalized education program with the materials that will help them thrive and develop core skills to build confidence and self-esteem.
What is Kumon Connect?
After years of delivering academic success through the Kumon Method, Kumon has introduced worksheets in a digital format via Kumon Connect. Now Kumon is even more accessible and convenient for students to complete their worksheets using a tablet and stylus.
How does Kumon Connect work?
- Just like the traditional method of Kumon, students attend class twice a week and receive homework the other five days.
- Students complete all assignments on their tablet with a stylus.
- Each daily assignment will be ready when the student signs in.
- Once assignments are complete, they can be submitted for daily grading and students will be notified when corrections are necessary.
- Instructors can replay the work of completed assignments to see skill development and provide feedback even when the student has completed their work at home.
As a parent, you’ll be able to see your child’s progress in real time through Kumon Connect. Your Kumon Instructor can also send supportive comments, provide helpful study hints and adjust their ongoing study plan accordingly.
