Okotoks BMX: More Than Just A Club

The Okotoks BMX Club is a hub for BMX enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Known for their inclusive approach to the sport, the club provides an array of opportunities for both experienced riders and beginners to engage in BMX racing in a safe and supportive environment.

The Christmas season at Okotoks BMX is set to be a joy-filled affair with the club's second annual Very Merry Christmas Party. Scheduled for Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Okotoks Elks Club, the party promises a night of fun with music by DJ Khaos, a concession stand, and cookie decorating activities. The event is open to everyone, not just club members, reflecting the club's commitment to community engagement. Tickets are just $5 each.

In addition to hosting events, Okotoks BMX also organizes various fundraising initiatives throughout the year. One such initiative is the FundScrip Gift Card Fundraiser. This program allows individuals to purchase gift cards from a wide range of major retailers, including Walmart, Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Amazon, Aldo, and more. The beauty of this fundraiser is that Okotoks BMX receives a percentage of each gift card sale, providing a simple yet effective way for community members to support the club.

Looking ahead to 2024, Okotoks BMX is gearing up to host its first provincial event on June 22-23. As the club prepares for this significant milestone, it is actively seeking sponsors and volunteers to ensure the event's success. There are myriad reasons to get involved, whether as a sponsor, volunteer, or participant. Not only does involvement provide an opportunity to support a local sporting organization and promote physical activity, but it also offers the chance to engage with the wider Okotoks community and contribute to the continued growth of BMX in the region.

The inclusive atmosphere for a thrilling and healthy sport is reason enough to join or support Okotoks BMX, but outside of that here are five great reasons to take up the sport and push your limits while having fun.

  1. Learn New Skills: BMX is a great way to learn new skills and challenge yourself in different ways. Riders develop balance, coordination, agility, and endurance as they progress through the various levels of the sport. Additionally, riders gain confidence as they learn new tricks and become more comfortable on their bikes.
  2. Meet New People:  Joining a BMX club or team is a great way to meet new people who share your love of the sport. You can make friends with fellow riders who are at similar skill levels or those who are more experienced than you are. This can be a great opportunity to learn from each other and have fun together while riding!
  3. Improve Your Fitness: Riding BMX regularly can help improve your overall fitness level as it works multiple muscle groups at once. You will build strength in your legs, core, arms, and back as you ride around the track or perform tricks on ramps or jumps. Additionally, you can increase your cardiovascular fitness by riding longer distances or pushing yourself harder during races or competitions.
  4. Accessible Tracks & Parks: There are plenty of tracks and parks all over Canada that offer safe places for riders to practice their skills without having to worry about traffic or other hazards that may present themselves outside of designated areas like streets/roadsides where riding could potentially be dangerous due to lack of protection from vehicles passing by etc.
  5. Racing Opportunities: Okotoks BMX hosts races throughout the year which give members an opportunity to test out what they’ve learned against others in friendly competition. These races provide an exciting atmosphere where everyone has an equal chance at success regardless of skill level – making them perfect for both beginners just starting out on their BMX journey as well as seasoned pros looking for some extra motivation.

Okotoks BMX Club is more than just a sports club, it's a vibrant community dedicated to promoting BMX racing and fostering a love for the sport among people of all ages. Whether you're a seasoned rider, a novice, or simply a community member looking to get involved, Okotoks BMX extends a warm welcome to all.
